My name is Sieka and I started my PhD at FEMTO-ST in the BIND team in February 2025. I have a background in Molecular Life Sciences (BSc & MSc, Wageningen University, the Netherlands) and have performed my end of studies internship at ENS Paris-Saclay, where I studied blood-cell chemotaxis using microfluidic maze devices. My PhD is part of the ANR-funded ModerniT project, which investigates the effects of nano-pollutants on haemostasis. These particles, present in the environment, can enter the bloodstream and interact with blood vessels, potentially affecting endothelial cells and haemostasis. However, the mechanisms involved remain poorly understood. This research will use microdevices to track the behaviour of nano-pollutants in blood flow and assess their impact on vascular health. This project combines elements of bioengineering and toxicology to contribute to a better understanding of how environmental factors influence human health. A topic that I am eager to start working on as it aligns very well with my passion for multidisciplinary research. |
