Dynamics of Smart Structures
The DSMART team conducts cutting-edge research in structural dynamics and vibroacoustics, with applications in vibration control, acoustic control, energy harvesting, and structural health monitoring. Our expertise spans a wide range of traditional passive and active solutions—such as viscoelastic materials, single and multiple absorbers, piezoelectric shunts, and electroacoustic absorbers. Building on this foundation, we innovate through advanced material architectures, functionalization of complex phenomena (including nonlinearities), and multiphysical couplings involving smart materials with tunable properties.
Leveraging a strong combination of methodologies, simulations, and experiments, our team integrates uncertainties and unknowns to develop robust design strategies for the next generation of adaptive and self-adaptive structures.
